Abstract

"Grief is a natural response to losing something or someone important to us. The death of a loved one represents one of the most distressing and potentially traumatic life events in childhood and adolescence (Alvis et al., 2022). The purpose of this project was to learn about access to support systems and available programming for grieving children and their families in order to understand how occupational therapy can address these needs and opportunities for interprofessional collaboration or practice. Five semi-structured interviews were conducted with employees and volunteers of organizations providing grief support to better understand the grief support services and challenges they experience. Findings reveal that despite the significant long- term impact on children and families following the death of someone significant in their lives, there is a lack of resources available to meet the needs of this population. Additionally, there is a lack of research exploring grief support for children and effective strategies for supporting families of these children."
