Abstract
"The Doctoral Experiential (DEx) allows doctor of occupational therapy (OTD) students to design and implement a community experiential and a scholarly project that responds to the needs of a population or setting. It is a cumulative, self-guided process carried out in three phases: preparatory, experiential and scholarship, and dissemination. Over 14 weeks during the experiential and scholarship phase, a single, two-piece project was implemented. The overall intent of this DEx project remotely addressed the unmet needs of individuals with upper limb absence (ULA). One element of this project included a group effort to expand the Unlimbited Wellness pilot program in collaboration with the community partner, Handspring. The program was carried out via teleconferencing, and its effectiveness as an expansion was determined. The second aspect of this DEx project was independent and involved an investigation of health care inequities for the ULA population in the hopes of inspiring practitioners to take action."
