Abstract
"Dementia is an umbrella term utilized to encompass memory loss and a group of symptoms which can interfere with overall quality of life and activities of daily living. Early signs and symptoms of dementia include but are not limited to short-term and long-term memory difficulties, increasing confusion, changes in personality, decreased cognitive function, decreased ability to care for oneself, and increased difficulties with communication and language. With the prevalence of dementia diagnoses on the rise – projected to increase tremendously by 2025, there is a need for specialized care in memory care units. The purpose of this doctoral experiential was to develop an evidenced-based program adaptation for memory care units that aimed to encourage overall participation in daily activities throughout all stages of Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias (ADRD)."
