Abstract
"Partial hand loss is a major source of disability impacting individuals across the lifespan with far reaching economic and social consequences. The hand plays a vital role in occupational engagement, accounting for 90% of arm function (Treadwell, 2018). Compared to other levels of upper and lower limb loss, partial hand loss is associated with higher rates of whole person impairment and disabling mental health conditions (Treadwell, 2018). As a result of this disparity, the partial hand loss population is at an increased risk for experiencing poor functional outcomes. Moreover, the existing gap in literature coupled with inadequate research funding increases the risk of health disparities among this population (Graham et al, 2021). This doctoral experiential capstone project (DEx) aimed to address the current health needs of individuals with partial hand loss/difference through a multidimensional approach including research, peer support, and advocacy."
