Abstract

"Tendinopathy is a common overuse injury in the athletic and working population that is commonly treated with therapeutic tapes. Dynamic Tape (DT) is a biomechanical tape that works mechanically and alters movement patterns to absorb load and re-inject that energy back into the body without limiting range of motion. There is minimal research on the efficacy of DT for elbow tendinopathy. In addition to this, there was not yet a protocol on how to use DT for upper extremity tendinopathies. The researchers used these limitations to design a project with the intent to prove the efficacy of DT as a modality for occupational therapy (OT) and give clinicians a resource model to follow while taping for upper extremity tendinopathy. The researchers performed a retrospective study that looked at assessments such as a numeric pain scale, range of motion (ROM), manual muscle testing (MMT), and the upper extremity function index (UEFI) in order to determine if DT in addition to treatment is more effective than typical treatment alone."
