September 12, 2017 -- The Role States Play in the Trump Era
On September 12, 2017, Western New England University School of Law and the Institute for Legislative and Government Affairs hosted speaker Eric Lesser, with an introduction by Professor Arthur Wolf. Senator Less is one of the youngest members of the State Senate and a former aide to President Barack Obama. In an era of record partisanship and cynicism in Washington (especially among young people), states play a role in charting an alternative course and rekindling a sense of common purpose. He discusses the historical role states play as “laboratories of democracy,” and particularly Massachusetts historical role as a testing ground for ideas that eventually become national policy.
