Abstract

In 2000-2001 Judge Michael A. Ponsor presided over the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' first death penalty case in over 50 years. From that experience, he authored the novel "The Hanging Judge", and became the first judge to write a novel about the experience. In a presentation at Western New England University School of Law, he talked about how he came to write the novel, using viewpoints of the many characters involved in the trial.
